Ragdoll’s RAMBLES ABOUT LIFE

Hello hello
My name is Ivana and I am a 4th year law and journalism student at UTS.
I also work full time for an insurance company.
I recently got married and am finding my new obligations as a wife slightly stressful.
With studying and working full time and managing a home in between I am very sleep deprived.
I love ice-cream and it's the only thing that keeps me going.
My blog is about all the things in my life as significant or insignificant as they may seem.
So sit back with a bowl or ice-cream, relax and enjoy.

Facebook Mania

I began my Facebook adventure accidentally when my friend went overseas on exchange and sent me a message via Facebook asking me to start up. At this stage Facebook was a relatively new phenomenon and I for one knew nothing about it. Initially I used it for a communication tool with this one friend and now suddenly I have 300 odd friends many of whom I know and just as many who I don’t.

There are of course those people who you know well and enjoy communicating with. Then there are those people who you know through your friends and other people you know. Then there are those who you went to school with and don’t really want to have anything to do with anymore but you feel rude to reject their friend request but had no problems rejecting them as a friends at school.

Then there are those who you know absolutely nothing about and have never heard of. These people add you, send you a message and are say things like “Hey do you know blah blah, I see that they are a friend we have in common”. I then contact the person we have in common who informs me that they have no idea who this maniac is and that they just kept friend requesting so they just added them to stop the constant annoyance.  I have no issues with ignoring these people.

Then there are those who contact you for information. Like this guy who contacted me from Croatia wanting to know what living conditions and working conditions were like in Australia! WHAT?????

Decline and ignore was my response to that.

But my favourite by far are those who search your name and just add you because you have the same surname. This is especially the case with an “ethnic” surname like mine, because anyone who adds me with the same surname assumes that we are related. The irony in this is that on Facebook I go by married name so all these people may be related to my husband and his family but not directly to me. I had one girl who sent me this long winded message about how all the women in “our” family are so attractive. I think she was shocked to hear that I was not from the same “clan” as she was and that I was married to someone with the same surname as hers. I thanked her for the compliment and said that I didn’t so much agree about the women but the men aren’t half bad.  She replied with the typical possible blood relation comment “well I don’t know about that I wouldn’t want someone to think I think my cousin is hot”. I told my husband that all the women with his surname have tickets on themselves whether they are related or not. It must just be in the name.

Personally, I just enjoy Facebook to see photos of my friends. I love seeing their travels, the events of their week or weekend and of course what they wore. Typical female obsession. My best friend often takes photos of her newest purchases and posts them on Facebook so I can see them. This always fun. I’m not particularly interested in seeing picture of people who just like to exhibition themselves- girls are great for this. I think half the females on my Facebook are posing in these “sexy” poses or flashing way too much skin and I think to myself are you serious? I mean either they have way too much confidence for one person or they really think that people don’t see these photos laugh. There are two ladies on my Facebook in particular who are real exhibitionists. When I showed my husband their pictures he gave a typical male response noting that the pictures of these ladies was like free soft pornography. Great, I thought.
